Does anyone hate the gemstone Tanzanite as much as I do?

My mom recently bought a $1,000 ring from Jewelry TV. Not only that, she bought earrings, a couple of rings at Wal-Mart for $300 that she claims to be Tanzanite, and finally another ring from Home Shopping Network for $300. She bought all this stuff to make herself happy (I am totally cool with that) and because “Tanzanite is a generational gemstone. It only increases in value.”

Shame you hate Tanzanite, when clearly it is not the Tanzanite that is the problem.

Compulsive buying can be a real social problem, now-a-days. The Internet and TV and all the Media! What a jungle! All this exposure can spawn the underlying “buying craze” that would normally lie “dormant”.

However, regarding Tanzanite (Which is really a “blue-violet” (q.v.)colored ZOISITE).

Zoisite comes in many colors, the most popular (for now) being “Tanzanite”. The word Tanzanite was “coined” by Tiffany’s, just to produce a market, thus making the stone more expensive. It is supposed to be “Zoisite from Tanzania”.
